Some aspects of using vacuum separators in practice
The efficiency of a vacuum separator (Altmann) grows with increasing temperature of insulation system. Operation of separator has two negative consequences: If the separator is permanently working, diagnostics by method of gas chromatography is practically impossible. Short-period working is accompanied with an effort for the highest possible running temperature of the machine, which however adversely affects lifetime of insulating materials. From the graph it is possible to read how much the lifetime can be shortened. The text also says that although the insulating oil is degassed relatively quickly, the process of degassing of the firm insulation can take significantly longer time and the oxidizing process still continues. The conclusion contents doubts about efficiency of separators in practice.
